Catechism at St. John's

At St. John’s Lutheran Church in North Prairie, we take seriously the responsibility and joy of teaching the Christian faith to the next generation. Our Catechism Class is designed to give students a strong foundation in God’s Word and the Lutheran Confessions, preparing them to confess their faith boldly and live as disciples of Jesus Christ.

This is currently a two-year course of study that walks students through Luther’s Small Catechism using the Enduring Faith 60 Lesson Catechism Study from Concordia Publishing House. Together, we explore the Six Chief Parts of Christian doctrine:

  • The Ten Commandments
  • The Apostles’ Creed
  • The Lord’s Prayer
  • The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
  • Confession and the Office of the Keys
  • The Sacrament of the Altar

Each lesson is rooted in Scripture, connects to daily life, and points to the promises we have in Christ. Students not only learn the content of the Catechism but also grow in understanding what it means to be a baptized child of God, redeemed by Christ and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

Catechism Class also prepares students for the Rite of Confirmation, where they publicly confess the faith into which they were baptized. While Confirmation is an important milestone, Catechism Class emphasizes that learning the faith is not simply about a ceremony, but about a lifelong walk with Jesus.

Parents are encouraged to be active partners in the learning process, supporting their children in prayer, study, and worship. At St. John’s, we see Catechism Class as a vital ministry where the whole family is strengthened in faith.

We invite you to join us as we grow together in God’s Word, trusting in Christ, who sustains us now and forever.
